Educational Perspectives of Relational Practices in Modern Medicine

Description: Seminar, four hours. Systematic discussion of personhood and body concepts, in context of asymmetric person-to-person relationships in high-tech modern medical training and practice. Exploration of diverse implications for building theories of relational practice. Students learn to use phenomenological approach, to make sense of lived experience of making sense of world we inhabit; and stance on who we are and activities at hand in everyday practices. Phenomenological approach maintains focus on how things show up; what affordances emerge in activities and practices; and how we comport toward them making sense of them, others, and ourselves. Letter grading.
