Fall 2024 - Dr. Dorio is hands-down one of the best professors I have ever had at UCLA! He is incredibly accommodating, extremely kind, engaging in class, and provides meaningful information (both about the community engagement requirement & about the course concepts). Dr. Dorio made class exciting for us, fostering a space where we could comfortably discuss a wide range of topics with him and with our classmates. He instilled a light-heartedness in the class and made it such a welcoming environment, especially during rough times throughout the quarter (like the presidential election). He gave us ample time to complete assignments, incorporated in-class activities that genuinely helped us, and overall implemented class practices that made the entire experience memorable & fun. Class assignments consisted of 3 guided reflections that built upon both each other and what was discussed in class, 2 check-in's regarding our plans for fulfilling the community engagement pathway, a final action plan detailing our plans, a final paper (that was entirely built off the guided reflections + action plan check-in's), and a gallery walk presentation that included the same information from our action plan/final paper. Dr. Dorio provided all of the readings in Canvas and included multiple resources for us regarding possible community engagement requirement opportunities. You can tell that even though the job is stressful and tiring, he does not let this get in the way of supporting students however he can. I could not recommend Dr. Dorio more! Do yourself a favor and take this class (or any) with him!
