Theorizing Reading: Rhetorics of Academic Discourse

Description: Lecture, two hours; discussion, two hours. Designed for graduate students. Introduction to theoretical approaches to reading, such as poststructuralist, feminist, deconstruction, reader reception, and semiotics, and to core ideas of some leading theorists of reading, such as Roland Barthes, Wolfgang Iser, Barbara Johnson, Stanley Fish, and Gayatri Spivak. Letter grading.
