Description: Seminar, one hour. Extremophiles are organisms that thrive under extreme environments, from hot springs and hydrothermal vents to acidic caves and polar ice. Students gain appreciation for astonishing diversity of life that exists on our planet by learning about extremophilic organisms and roles they play in biotechnology, as well as current research to understand life on early Earth and potential for life on other planets.
