Film and Literature
Hands down the hardest and least just grader I've ever had. I don't know anyone who got higher than a B- on any of the essays, and he tends to assign fairly general topics, then hammers you on specifics he never even mentioned needing to be included. I'm normally an A to B+ student, and it looks like I'm getting a C this quarter, and I worked my ass off for that C. I question the value of several of the films he shows, and his insistance of taking up the entire 3 hours just to lecture can become almost unbearable. He is funny and fairly interesting during the lectures (for the first 2 hours at least) but he is just unbelivably tough on grades.
Professor McHugh is one of the best professors I've had at UCLA. Her lectures are packed, though she does talk a little fast at times. She grades fairly, helps students as much as possible and makes sure you do all the reading without having trick quizzes or any of that tosh. She really tries to make the class as interesting and tailored for the students as possible. She's very organised and I's really reccomend her to anyone.
