ENGL 88SA

Splitting the Panel: Experimental Graphic Literature Seminar

Description: Seminar, one hour. Detailed overview of specific comic artists and forms commonly classified as experimental through the use of mixed media, alternative structure, and general subversion of classical sequential art. Artists and writers covered include Neil Gaiman, Trung Le Ngyuen, Amruta Patil, and Zoe Thorogood. Consideration of labels such as comic, graphic novel, and experimental; and what those terms entail. In addition to text and image--fundamental tools of comics--special consideration is given to space and time itself, in a manner that considers comics a prime medium to express immaterial and personal experiences with the unknown. P/NP grading. Facilitated by Anbu Vajurael, with Christopher M. Mott as faculty mentor.
