Fight Club and White Noise: Investigations into White Masculinity

Description: Seminar, one hour. Investigation of concept of white masculinity as it has been defined in American culture by various scholars. Use of field of whiteness studies to analyze images of whiteness in literature and how it intersects with masculine ideals. Critical reflection on both whiteness and masculinity as social constructs, careful examination and recognition of literature that is white-specific, and understanding of whiteness coded as invisibility. P/NP grading. Facilitated by Sofia Staab-Gubenkian, with Mitchum A. Huehls as faculty mentor.
