I took plate tectonics with Kavner. She's great! It was her first time teaching the class so many of the concepts were simplified but we still learned a lot. She is extremely willing to help with the homework and really wants everyone to understand the concepts and get a good grade. The textbooks didn't really help too much but there were some concepts in them that showed up on the exams. The midterm and final weren't tricky as long as you went to all of the lectures. The final paper and presentation wasn't difficult at all- just make sure you pick something that interests you.

Spring 2020 - Carolina is amazing!! I've had the pleasure of having her for two quarters and I love the way she runs her classes. She engages students by asking a lot of questions in class and gauging conversations. Her slides are packed with information but she does a great job of explaining concepts. There are also weekly timed quizzes from the readings she assigns and some lecture information. In this class, there were 4 homework assignments and one final. Carolina is great in office hours and is always understanding. She is definitely willing to help you out. I would highly recommend this course!
