Winter 2024 - This class was an amazing fiat lux. We met three times throughout the entire quarter and watched one movie per class. We would briefly discuss some scientific concepts relating to the class before watching it (super simple), and there was no prep needed for before class. It's a fiat lux - it's supposed to be easy and fun. We got free pizza and snacks for each class and the movies were really interesting. Attendance for the three classes are mandatory but yeah, super fun fiat lux and would recommend to anyone who is interested in science or film or better yet, both! Professor Day is an amazing person, super kind and funny. It was always chill and as an Environmental Science major myself, it was really nice to be able to ask her some general questions about departments/programs.

Intro to Oceanography. Overall, this class was fun. Labs and attendance to labs contribute to your final grade. 1 quiz during each lab but they're super easy and also a lab final which is also super easy. Classes are pod cast, I literally skipped almost half the lectures and watched his recordings online instead. If you're planning to skip lecture, watch his pod casts. His lecture slides are on the website so you don't really have to take notes. His 2 mid terms are super easy, just get his previous test papers from the test bank do them. Also, read the book, it's very very straightforward. However, this class gets a little boring towards the end, nothing unbearable, just a little memorizing work as you get closer to finals. His finals is not difficult but you still have to study for it. He also gives you a lot of chances for extra credit. He had about 10+ seminars and 2 movies to watch, each 0.5% after you submit an essay about half a page to a page long. You can go up to 2% which is actually a lot. The TAs for this class are very nice too. I really recommend this class when Prof. Edwin teaches it.

i took her Fiatlux course ESS 19 last quarter and I have to say that it was a very enjoyable class. I definitely have to disagree with some of the reviews here. Prof. Tripati is very approachable and if you are having problems understanding anything in the course she is more than happy to help! Some people here seem to have painted her as a monster but she really isn't! I would recommend this course for freshmen who may be thinking of taking it next year. There was a paper due at the end of the quarter but it could be about any topic that was covered in the course or even one in which you are very interested to write about.

Not actually E&S 19. COOLEST PROFESSOR EVER! He might be hard, but he's a very good professor. He's the best professor I've had so far and probably one of the best you will get in UCLA. Just search him on google "An Yin Mars" and you'll know what I mean! TAKE HIS CLASS! Also, he is handsome. Tell him that, he likes it :)
