This was a great class, I would take it again in a heartbeat. Dr. Beghein is a great lecturer and a very interesting person. She is passionate and knows a lot about the subject, in fact she even works with NASA!

The workload was very reasonable for this class. Every week, we had a lab and a reading assignment due. They were both reasonable amounts of work.

She uses well-made slides in her lectures and her lectures are interesting and engaging.

There was one midterm and it was very fair.

She was very considerate with all the circumstances of the end of Spring quarter (BLM and COVID-19) and made the final exam optional and no-harm.

Overall, she is a great professor and I would happily take a class with her again.

Boring and strict teacher. She lectures with a raspy voice, and demands attention. I was struggling to stay awake in the class. The class is rather easy if you're aiming for a B, but you do have to put in work for an A. If you can stand boredom for a somewhat easy grade, go ahead and take this class.

First off, the material is TOTALLY awesome. Earthquakes in CA?? Where else can you learn that better? His class, ESS8 though, is not what you would expect. The final exam has a ton of math on it which if you aren't a south campus major will leave you scratching your heads. I understand if the math problems were "plug and go" problems but they AREN'T. You literally have to sit there and THINK about this shit. THAT is pretty bad, especially since there were like 30 problems of 100 on his final like that. That's my only complaint, otherwise the course was enjoyable.

This class is B.S. Stay far away from this liar. He got mad that everyone used the midterm in the test bank and voided it just because the distribution was extremely high. Then made up some story that someone stole the answer key to justify it. Then he made the final ridiculously impossible by making 80 percent of the multiple choice questions with "none of the above". I bet he jacks off to earthquakes at night.

Very easy G.E. The labs are incredibly easy and the midterm is straightforward. Don't need to go to lectures at all because Meng is a very confusing lecturer and boring. Just study the slides a few days before the test and you should be fine. The final was very tricky compared to the midterm. I would definitely recommend this class as it is one of the most under the radar easy G.E.

This class is not the easiest GE you will ever take. The labs are extremely easy and have lots of bonus points. They are worth 30% of your grade and I had over 100% for all of my labs combined. The midterm is also worth 30%. If you show up, take good notes, and study a little bit each week, you will do great. Unfortunately, no one actually does that because it's a GE. I showed up to most of the classes and took notes sometimes. I studied two days before and ended up with an 82%. Then there is the final. I didn't study much because I was busy at work, but I went to even fewer classes and took almost no notes following the midterm. I read through his review slides and read the slides from the second half of the course the day before the final. I ended up with a 78%. These are not the best grades, luckily for me there is the opportunity to earn 3% extra credit through either a field trip or a short paper. Do this assignment! I had almost no business getting an A- in this class. If not for the easy labs and extra credit, this would not have been the case. If you are willing to do a good job on the labs and complete the extra credit, you will be fine. He's a good professor and is pretty funny. If you have any interest in earthquakes definitely take this class. If you are looking for the easiet GE, I'd recommend taking Geography 5 instead. This is a good class that is pretty interesting.
