Description: Lecture, two hours; outside study, four hours. Preparation: ability to read melodic or rhythmic notation. Investigation and exploration of musical time and rhythm in 20th- and 21st-century classical, jazz, world, and popular music. Concepts explored include meter, pulse, rhythmic cycles, hemiolas, and polyrhythms. P/NP or Letter grading.
