I took Coleman for French Autobiography and I was a little iffy about this class from what I had read here, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. This actually ended up being one of my favorite classes. The assigned reading is manageable and his lectures were pretty interesting- he gave meaning to the texts. There was a paper, in-class midterm and final take-home paper. You will probably fail if you don't show up to class because he covers a lot of information. Just do the readings and try to speak up every day- you can tell he appreciates the students who ask questions and give their opinions. Overall he's a great professor- I would definitely take another one of his classes if I had the chance.

Fall 2015 - I would highly recommend this class. Professor Thomas' lectures were organized, engaging and very interesting. The books he choose were all very interesting, I enjoyed reading almost all of them so it didn't even really feel like work. The grade was based 20% on participation and 80% on a final paper. The final paper was a little difficult but Professor Thomas gives you a lot of different options for topics so you can really write about whatever you want. And he holds extra office hours during tenth week and is super helpful in guiding you with your paper. I really loved this class, I always looked forward to going to lecture, doing the readings and even writing the final paper.
