Fall 2025 - Never in my life have I ever written a bruinwalk review before, but Dr. Ellis deserves one. As someone who joined the class, not as a classics or linguistics major, but as an electrical engineer, I didn't know what I was getting myself into. He is a phenomenal man in both explanatory skills and exercising patience. Whenever I had a question (in which I had many) he would find 2-3 unique angles to help my brain have something more understandable to chew on. He is extremely generous in grading (like more than any teacher I've ever had in south campus), fair on tests and quiz material, and isn't afraid to crack a cheeky joke drenched in British humor when you are down in the dumps. He practically warns you ahead of time what will be on the tests so you aren't panicking learning niche greek rules that will have you crash out. His quizzes are mostly vocab, with the occasional chart you got to brute force into your noggin. Did I have to spend an obscene amount of time the night before quizzes and tests prepping? Yes. Was it my fault for: not downloading Anki earlier, not practicing the syntax the day we were assigned them, and never reading ahead? Absolutely! If you stay disciplined, even if you are bad at languages like me, you will get an A. He isn't trying to make you fail; I knew it was my fault every time I got a subpar grade back. (Please memorize vocab or paradigm charts like every day if you can, I didn't, but your life will be so easy with just 30 minutes a day) In a world without Dr. Ellis, I would have dropped out after the first week. But in a world with Dr. Ellis, he convinced me to take Greek 2 just the thrill of it. Genuinely thankful for the providence of God I got a professor like him. A class I only took to pad some credits after bombing a physics class ended up being a gold mine. He is the standard in both professionalism and character. Y'all who get to take him are blessed beyond your comprehension.
