Health Care Systems: Structures, Functions, and Policies

Description: Lecture, four hours; discussion, one hour. Requisite: Public Health 50B. Limited to Public Health majors. Not open for credit to students with credit for course 100. Introduction to health policy and management focusing on basic concepts underlying health care organization, finance, and policy. Topics include development of U.S. health care system, comparisons to international health care systems, trends in health care spending, role of public and private insurance, care delivery, disparities in health status and health care, and current landscape of health policy reform. Letter grading.
