Description: Seminar, three hours. Reading knowledge of Japanese not required. Discussions and readings on ritual (performing) arts of Japan comprising music, dance, storytelling, viewing, purification, divination, disguise, mimicry, and competitive as well as acrobatic arts, with special emphasis on religio-magical purposes and symbolic structure of these arts. In Progress grading (credit to be given only on completion of course 270B).
