Fall 2019 - Both the textbook and workbook are quite necessary for this course but are reasonably priced so shouldn't be a problem. If you show up to all classes and discussions you barely need to study aside from maybe 20 minutes of quizlets beforehand for the daily quizzes in lectures which is probably the hardest part of the course. Course is incredibly accessible to everyone and is super fun so would recommend even if not super into Korean pop-culture (am not Korean nor was too invested in Korean pop-culture.)

Professor Sohn is very nice. The pace of her class i just right and class is never boring. I had no problem staying awake ever and the class really makes you want to join in the interaction. Overall a very fun and easy to take if your just interested in language or if you need the requirement.
