Making the Grade--At What Cost?

Description: Seminar, one hour. Dissects relationship between mental health and current structure of educational system. Study of positive psychology examining what undergraduates connect with life satisfaction (grades, prestigious internships, or top tier graduate schools) and source of motivation. Holistic review of current education system, from original intention of grades and their effect on motivation in modern change. Discussion of UCLA student experiences with new experimental evaluation methods, including A/F only grading and pass/fail grading. Provides students with opportunities to reflect on and share personal and academic experiences. P/NP grading. Facilitated by Eva Danesh, with Shanna Shaked as faculty mentor.
