We Speak your Language: Collaborative Art as Means of Community Inclusion

Description: Seminar, one hour. Analysis of role language, art, and creativity plays in personal identity, community, society, and environment. Exploration of art as vehicle for generating inclusive and engaging community. Allows students to discover personal creativity and talents, and culminates in creation of collaboratively constructed artwork to be installed on UCLA campus. Networking, conflict resolution, community organization, dissolving language and cultural barriers. Examination of relationships between language, culture, art, self, and community. P/NP grading. Facilitated by Danielle Potheau, with Mary Elizabeth Galvin as faculty mentor.
