Radko is a pretty decent professor. I suggest going to her lectures whether you already know the material or not because she often drops hints as to what will be on her midterms or her final. She writes neatly and explains the concepts well. Her midterms are fair, but tricky. There's only five questions on her midterms and 10 on her final so her questions often require you to apply multiple topics in order to just solve one problem. Her final was completely conceptual and required you to really understand the material. It was harder than the midterms but it's too terrible if you studied. The best way to study is to do many practice problems and read through the concepts. I ended up with an A in the class. I would definitely recommend taking her course. And she grades everything really fast. I got my midterm grades within 48hrs which is pretty fast. Take Radko!

Sarsgyan is definitely a smart guy, but he was an all right professor. During lectures, he'd be reading off his notes most of the times and these notes would just be the textbook reiterated. What I did like was his humor. He did try to make sure we laugh during class. The class is definitely hard, but then again, Math 31B is one of the harder math classes. His main focus was PROOFS. Although his notes are a reiteration of the book, going to lecture is helpful because he highlights the proofs and problems that he wants you to know. Doing ALL the homework (which is unfortunately massive at times) will help get you get a great grade in the class. Overall, a hard class with a decent professor, but can have a GENEROUS curve. Many people failed the final, but still managed to come out with a B.

Math 31B Spring 15 Fantastic professor and just seems like a very good man (although I don't know him personally). Crystal clear in his explanations of key concepts in class and in his expectations for the exams. He is pretty funny and his class has a great atmosphere. By far the best Math professor I've had. He has rekindled my interest in Math with his subtle exposition of concepts such as complex numbers in the last class to the extent that Im considering a change in major. Haven't taken my final yet so I do not know my grade.

Math 31B sucks! That's how it works. It's not a fun class, but Professor Short understands that and tries his best to help students with their learning. I took 31B Fall quarter of my freshman year (even though I had yet to take 31A -- UCLA screwed me over with that one) and I ended up getting a D-. Luckily, I was able to retake it. After auditing 31A during the Winter quarter I decided to try 31B for a second time in the Spring. I took the class with Short, and everything I once thought was a foreign language made sense. I'm not sure if it was because of me auditing 31A or if it was Short's teaching ability, but my grade definitely increased. Regardless of the true cause of my grade increase, Short is a very good math teacher. He teaches the material in a much easier format than other professors do (in my experience Tamara Kucherenko). I would recommend taking this class. His tests were pretty damn easy too. He gave out practice tests that were essentially identical to the actual test. Just do the homework - actually do the homework, don't copy or you won't learn anything - and you'll do fine in the class. I ended up earning a B, although I had about an 89%. The one downside to Short is the fact that he does not give out signed grades. It's good if you barely want to skate by with an X- grade, he'll round those up to an X. Just keep in mind X+ don't exist in Short's mind.

I had Professor Taylor for 31b. I think it was one of his first times teaching the course. Overall, i was not a fan of his teaching style. He focused primarily on proofs and proving equations, rather than teaching us how to actually apply them. He provided no concrete examples during class. That being said, he is obviously passionate about the subject and seems willing to help out if you have any questions. I basically taught myself the course using khan academy and the textbook and was fine. The midterms are not too bad, but the final is definitely harder. If you put in some work and do practice tests, you'll do significantly better. Overall, his teaching style is not very conducive into how I learn. That being said, if you take some time to teach yourself the material you should be fine.

Math 31B *If you're looking at David to teach you math your first quarter at ucla. DONT. I made that mistake* David is a nice enough guy and he really does care about his students. I would NOT venture to say he is a great professor, though. His lectures are unorganized and he does not manage his class time well; i.e. he says he has 3 topics planned for the day but only gets through one. This sucks when the exams come up and he crams a bunch of topics into 2 days. That being said, his class is bearable. He gives out practice midterms which are identical to the actual midterms. However, you have to do extra problems outside class to do well on the final.
