Advanced Topics in Cell and Molecular Biology: Molecular Biology of Extracellular Matrix
Description: Lecture, two hours. Requisites: courses 100 or 165A, 144. Recommended: course 138. Recent developments in fields of molecular, cell, and developmental biology. Synthesis of key extracellular matrix proteins and their assembly into supramolecular structures. Interactions of matrix proteins with cells and their influence on tissue formation. Concurrently scheduled with course C174D. Original research proposal required. Letter grading.

I took EEB 111 last quarter and it was probably the worst class I have taken in my whole stay here at UCLA. Along with 2 mandatory field trips, there are 2 lecture midterms and 2 lab midterms, along with the final. As a 3rd year Environmental Science major at the time, I felt a little out of place as majority of the class were Pre-Med/Biology 4th years. The averages on all the midterms were super high, which resulted in the class actually being curved down. If you are going to take this class, be prepared to learn a lot of boring stuff and have to memorize over 200 animals (including their order, family, genus, and species names). His lectures are very boring, and his old age probably does not help with this. Would only take this class if you absolutely have to.
