Spectral Methods in Fluid Dynamics

Description: Lecture, four hours; outside study, eight hours. Enforced requisites: courses 82, 182B, 182C, 250A, 250B. Introduction to basic concepts and techniques of various spectral methods applied to solving partial differential equations. Particular emphasis on techniques of solving unsteady three-dimensional Navier/Stokes equations. Topics include spectral representation of functions, discrete Fourier transform, etc. Letter grading.
