System Identification

Description: Lecture, four hours; outside study, eight hours. Methods for identification of dynamical systems from input/output data, with emphasis on identification of discrete-time (digital) models of sampled-data systems. Coverage of conversion to continuous-time models. Models identified include transfer functions and state-space models. Discussion of applications in mechanical and aerospace engineering, including identification of flexible structures, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) devices, and acoustic ducts. Letter grading.
