Elements of Production and Operations Research
Description: Lecture, four hours. Requisites: Mathematics 3A, 3B, 3C. Principles and decision analysis related to effective utilization of factors of production in manufacturing and nonmanufacturing activities. Analytical models and methods for allocation, transportation, inventories, replacement, scheduling, and facilities design. P/NP or letter grading.

Professor Bhikchandani is very good for this course. Lectures were very well laid out, he was always eager to answer questions in class, he got into complex issues but always told students what was not on the test, this gave us a chance to learn about more complex stuff without the fear of being tested. the amth required for this class is elementary for the first 8 weeks. The sample midterms and the real stuff is exactly the same format. Just a good, easy but not brain numbing class due to prof's involvement. A must take.

This is one of the best courses I have ever taken. Professor Stern covers the material in such an organized fashion. He is also the most caring prof out there. He gave us his fricken home phone number and said call anytime! He also exended the offer of helping us with any other class we are taking. The guy is a genious. We covered a lot of material and some how he made it seem like nothing at all. He passes out detailed notes every class which supplement the book. This class made me me consider gocing to graduate school in operations research. Topics covered: linear programming (simplex method, duality, modeling with lindo, and sensitivity analysis), integer programming, queing theory, simulation, inventory analysis, project scheduling, network flow, transportation and transhipment problems and markov processes. A side note about the course material: Make sure you have a good math backround if you want to get the most out of the class. Preferably, linear algebra (33a is adequate) and a good into stats class. You can do just fine without these courses, but they allow you to fully understand the material.
