Winter 2026 - I have never met a professor who is more of a narcissist in my entire life. Professor Wilson not only speaks in a monotone voice for the entirety of the class, is a failed entrepreneur who does the opposite of inspire, spends an hour and a half just talking about either AI or Tesla, and talks down to students repeatedly, but he also is incredibly unreasonable and unclear in his grading scheme and mechanisms. AVOID HIM AND THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS FOR YOUR MENTAL STATE!! First, Professor Wilson began this class by saying that everyone would receive an A and he had no tricks up his sleeve. I then proceeded to complete all course work and evaluations, earning an A on each assignment. My final grade in Bruin Learn still says that I have an A, and the only thing that is missing is my "participation grade" which if worth a total of 30%. Participation, as per the syllabus is based on attendance and class participation. Given that I attended every class and participated regularly, I did not expect to earn a 50% on participation. However, when I met with him to discuss why this was the case, he told me that the reason why he had decided upon this grade was because I had a closed computer on my desk for the second half of the class. For context, this is a no tech class, however there is a 30 minute work period where we get to use our computers. After the work period, almost every student simply shut their computers and continued taking handwritten notes. Professor Wilson, however, deemed it necessary to fault the class for simply having their closed technology on their desks. He never once asked students to put away computers and never once clarified that a closed computer (essentially the same as a brick) would cost us our grades. I asked the professor to clarify that even though I had earned an A on every course assignment, attended every class, and participated fully (he confirmed that I was one of the students who participated most), he thus felt it justifiable to lower my grade to a C due to a CLOSED laptop. He looked me in the eye and said yes. I respectfully asked him to reconsider one last time given what seemed to be purely punitive. He then proceeded to say inappropriate comments about "having a drink" and laughed in my face, completely void of any sense of empathy or understanding. A professor has a responsibility to inspire and engage with the next generation of students. Professor Wilson made me despise entrepreneurship, discredited all of the work I, and all my peers who were receiving the same punishment, had put into the course and the minor as a whole, and essentially said that due to his status, his experience, and his role in the department, I shouldn't even be asking questions about my own grade or inquire about my own learning experience. I don't understand who or how a professor could be so devoid of any sense of respect for his students, compassion for their lives, or understanding of their effort. Other students in this class have had their grad school acceptances revoked due to him or lost their job offers (because of a CLOSED computer!!!), and he simply doesn't care about his actions or the impact they have on students' lives. For your own sake, avoid interacting with professor Wilson... trust me, you deserve better from a school like UCLA.
