Zinesters Unite: Living Literary Legacy

Description: Seminar, one hour. Punk zines, also known as do-it-yourself composites of images, text, and cultural signifiers, surfaced alongside antagonistic nature of punk in 1970s. Examination of sociocultural and academic aesthetics of perzines and fanzines as both performative and archival materials beyond punk subculture steretypes. Deconstruction and analysis of temporalities of zines through lenses of gender, race, sexuality, politics, and accessibility to discover why and how zines contribute to larger cultural dialogues.
