Advanced Qualitative Research Methodology I

Description: Lecture, four hours. Requisites: course 205A, submission of OPRS application for small pilot study in fall of second year. In-depth analysis of symbolic interactionism and pragmatism as foundation for study of grounded theory methodology as guide to study design development, including sampling plan, interview strategies for data collection, and basic coding. Exploration of self-reflexivity and ethics in relation to entrée to field, recruitment of pilot study participants, interviewing, and preliminary data analysis via analytic, theoretic, and reflective memos based on pilot study data collected as part of course. Letter grading.
