Philosophy of Psychology
Description: Lecture, three to four hours; discussion, one hour (when scheduled). Preparation: one 4-unit psychology course, one philosophy course. Selected philosophical issues arising from psychological theories. Nature of perception and issues about perceptual psychology and development of important types of representation (e.g., of body, cause, agency) in early childhood. Relevance of computer simulation to accounts of thinking and meaning; relations between semantical theory and learning theory; psychological aspects of theory of syntax. May be repeated for credit with consent of instructor. P/NP or letter grading.
