I actually took philosophy 7 with professor Andrew Hsu but he is not a listed instructor on bruinwalk. I really enjoyed this class and thought it was an interesting intro to the world of philosophy. The professor tended to explore a ton of avenues during his lectures but given the topics that seemed necessary. It can sometimes be tough to follow but if you try to pay attention, take some notes, and do the readings then the class should be an easy A. The workload was really really light. Only 3, short, required homework assignments for the entire quarter and you grade was your score on the midterm/final. Really try to look into your TA because that's the person that grades everything and actually determines what you get in the class. I had a super awesome TA, Catherine Hochman, she was really fair and encouraged discussion and she was really good at articulating unclear concepts. Overall I would definitely recommend the class.

DO NOT TAKE THE CLASS IF YOURE NOT GOOD AT ENGLISH. no, just dont take this class.
you get readings every week and quizes depending on your TA. i have not heard of a single student complimenting their TAs. MY TA, ERIC VINCENT, WAS HORRIBLE. If I am given a chance to reverse any of my choices in life, it would be to chang this to a P/NP. No, cancel that; it would be to drop it.
the material is interesting, i admit. BUT ITS VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND.
as everyone else has mentioned, he is unorganized and his slides are useless pieces of shits.
but he is a sweet man....

i repeat... please dont take this class.....i want this class to have no enrollees, and diappear..

Coming into the class, I was thoroughly interested in the subject but leaving it now, I regret taking the class!! I spent $50 on a "required" course reader when it was no help and was not needed for ANY of the assignments. You could use it for extra understanding or context, but he could have simply have put it on reserve at the library or online. Speaking of online, HE DOES NOT PUT SLIDES, SYLLABUS, OR ESSAY PROMPTS ONLINE which is extremely barbarous, we're in the 21st century! Furthermore, the organization for this class is horrible. I felt clueless the whole time, despite attending every lecture, discussion, or even going to office hours whether it being my TA's or Rescorla's. The class was soooo bad that even my extra help, peer learning facilitator (PLF), had no clue how to help us. The TA's were just as bad where they only restated what Rescorla stated and had trouble answering questions we asked. Each essay was given with no guidance or rubric so I got a B on each and everyone of them. Lastly, the final is coming up yet he gave us a review sheet FOUR DAYS before the final, in which he only listed the topics with no context. The so-called review sessions were horrible and more like "Q&As" and despite going to TWO review sessions I STILL HAVE NO CLUE WHAT TO EXPECT FOR THE FINAL. Highly DO NOT recommend this class, specifically with Rescorla. If you want extra stress and confusion on your plate, go right ahead.

Professor Roth is over all really good! His class is fairly easy if you go to lectures, and his mid term and finals are basiclly given since he not only gives you the questions in advance but he also reviews them in class. His lecture are not that great but he is not as boaring as most proffesors are, and he is really friendly and helpful in Office hours. I definitly recomend him to everyone, he makes all this new and odd material very easy to understand!!!
