Neuroethology
Description: Lecture, four hours; discussion, two hours. Requisite: course 111A or M180A. Physical properties of animal signals and physiological mechanisms underlying their generation. Topics include classical neuroethological models: acoustic and vibration communication in vertebrates, sound localization in owls, electrosensing and electrocommunication in electric fish, and neurobiology of birdsong. Letter grading.

Winter 2021 - Class is split into 3 sections with each having a different professor each. 1st section was with Metzner, 2nd with Schlinger, and 3rd with Glanzman. Overall, the class was moderately difficult with open note/book midterms that weren't overlapping each other with non-cumulative final. About 6-8 lectures for each midterm. I enjoyed the class with Metzner and Glanzman the most. However, the midterms are 1 hour each which is a very little amount of time imo for both Metzner and Schlinger and did not do too well on them with a C with Metzner and B with Schlinger. Glanzman is by far the best professor out of the 3 and gave 1.5 hours for the final which I scored a A. The class is not too bad and with moderate studying you can at least attain and A.

Professor Narins is freaken awesome. This guy knows his stuff. He can present something that is highly complex in a way that is easy to understand. He keeps his students engaged by asking questions and telling the most interesting stories. Tests are fair and straightforward. I highly recommend Narins. He really gives you an appreciation of the sciences like no other.
