Mechanics of Wave Motion and Sound

Description: Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour. Requisites: courses 1A, 1B, and 1C (or 1AH, 1BH, and 1CH), 105A, 105B, Mathematics 32B, 33A, 33B. Vibrating systems and wave propagation in gases, liquids, and solids, including elements of hydrodynamics and elasticity. Applications in ultrasonics, low-temperature physics, solid-state physics, architectural acoustics. P/NP or letter grading.
