I'll skip what everyone else has said and tell you what you want to know. He puts 1 question from the homework directly on the midterm (You can't argue if you miss it or don't understand it - thats fair). That leaves 3 questions for you to answer with the time you have left. The questions will require you to think. Basically, each of the 3 questions will combine concepts and ideas from different problems in the book. e.g. part a of question 1 may ask to see if you understood a concept from problem 6 of the homework and part b of question # 1 will ask to see if you understood a concept from question 22 of the homework (get the idea?). No his exams are not easy, people like him alot, including myself, thats why he got such a low level of difficulty score on his review. However he is not hard either. I would just say that he is less difficult than other professors. UNFORTUNATELY HIS FINAL EXAM IS NOT DOABLE (therefore i can not tell you what to do about that, however i regret studying for the final). Also, for the final you will have 2 problems directly from the homework on the exam so once again, if you get them wrong, you can't argue. Yes I would definetely recommend taking him. Read other comments to find out more. My grade in the class was a "B"

AVOID this professor and class!! I am taking this class currently (spring quarter 2005) and all I can say is that this class will screw up your GPA majorly. He posts his lectures up online and just reads off the notes. This gives you the impression that you don't have to show up for class but for one of the final exam problems he put a stupid demonstration problem. He is an awful teacher and the midterms and final are not fair. He did not provide any practical final so no one in the class knew what to study for. His formula sheet was a joke consisting of 100+ formulas all jumbled up in one sheet of paper making it near impossible to find the right formula (some of the formulas were even repeated!). He is also very rude during office hours and extremely unapproachable. He also gets angry during lecture for the most random thing (like coming in late or slight noises). He also seems to lose his train of thought for physics during lecture. If this isn't enough reason for you then consider the 50+ people that dropped this class during 10th week. AVOID this man like the PLAGUE.

I recently wrote a review on the date 4/29/2015. I've just gotten back my second midterm and I'm writing an updated review. I will try to be as objective as possible. Here goes.... I HATE HER I HATE HER I HATE HER I HATE HER I HATE HER I HATE HER I HATE HER I HATE HER I HATE HER I HATE HER I HATE HER I HATE HER I HATE HER I HATE HER I HATE HER I HATE HER I HATE HER I HATE HER!!! OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't sign up for this!!! I am enrolled in Niemann who is conceptual and for some crazy reason I am taking Shaked's midterms which are numbers oriented. Let's just say that I am enrolled in Shiemann (Niemann+Shaked). YES. I am enrolled in freakin Shiemann's course! I didn't sign up for this hell ride!! Wtf is this!!!!! Don't take Shaked (in other words, don't commit GPA suicide). She's crazy. Her obsession with estimating numbers has ruined 6B for some 400 ucla students. It's insane. I was off by a magnitude of 10 on one of the questions. Formula was right. Work was right. Units was right. Explanation was right. Estimation just a bitttt off. I got 2/9 points. The entire exam only has 40 points. Madness. Yes, she is a nice professor. Too bad her niceness won't save my GPA. The fact that there is going to be a curve doesn't make me any less pissed off at her. It's bs that I spend hours studying only to have her ridiculous exams thrown at my face. I got a freakin A from 6A with Huang who is considered difficult and I am getting a score from Shaked that hurts me whenever I say it!!! JUST TESTING THE WATERS HERE.. IS ANYONE ELSE FED UP WITH SHAKED AND FEEL LIKE EMAILING THE PHYSICS DEPARTMENT REGARDING THIS. LET'S JUST SAY THAT I AM CONSIDERING IT. IT'S JUST NOT FAIR THAT WE'RE TAKING 6B WITH ONE PROFESSOR, BUT BEING TESTED BY ANOTHER. This is one of the best teachers I have ever had at UCLA. I completely didn't understand physics before I went to his class, and then all of the sudden, I was getting A's on the midterms. They were almost identical to the practice midterms, which helped I'm sure. Going to his office hours helped, of course, as well. He's very friendly, and cares a lot about his students. My favorite thing about his class was that he used "concept tests," which are multiple choice questions that help him know how much the class is understanding the information. If few people get the answer right, he'll go over the concept again. The concept tests are also helpful because they keep you awake in a class that teaches some of the most boring things I've ever learned. He also makes it more exciting by doing lots of demonstrations.

He is an amazing professor. He is a professor who genuinely find joy in teaching. He hosts multiple office hours, including "happy hours" to help students to hone their understandings. I highly recommend anyone to take his course. He has abundant knowledge in the physics and he displays that through his structured lectures.
