Institutions and Comparative Politics: Comparative Institutional Analysis

Description: Seminar, three hours; discussion, one hour (when scheduled). Use of advances of rational choice theory and new institutionalism to compare and analyze major institutional structures, including presidentialism vs. parliamentarism, unicameralism vs. bicameralism, two-party vs. multiparty systems, cadre vs. mass parties, and plurality vs. proportional electoral systems.
