Spring 2020 - Best coding/MATLAB professor EVER, along with Max Mansolf. Susy (pronouns they/them, please get it right) is extremely caring, truly cares about whether students learn rather than a huge grade stiggler. Spring quarter 2020 was rough times because of the pandemic, but Susy emailed the entire class a couple times to emphasize that they are here to help, that if you have any questions please do ask them, that they hope every one is taking care of themselves. I asked them questions, and they answer nicely and clearly (even though the answers are thru email, you can tell the warm nice tone from them). They also gave out 2 extra credit opportunities, very easy and kind of fun. Very clear lectures, as you can follow along on a MATLAB script they provide, and each point follows by example when needed. The homework was pretty easy, as long as you watch the lectures along with the lecture MATLAB scripts, you're good. They really care about whether you learn and if your wellbeing is ... well, mental health, and if you actually understand the material comes especially first during this pandemic, and Susy emphasizes that. ALSO, to ensure quality lecture recordings with no background noise and disturbances, Suzy frikin flipped their sleep schedule- I believe they recorded their lectures at night/past midnight, and they sleep during the day- SUper dedicated and just want you to succeed!! I'm not sure what's up with the Psych 85 ratings, but for MATLAB, Susy is the one to go! Belive me. I'm horrible at coding, but this class was enjoyable for me. Oh and, Susy sometimes throws their humor into lectures, it's like nerdy cute humor. Grade % breakdown: 50% homework (5 of them, 10% each) - easy to get full score as long as you follow the lecture scripts. If anything isn't clear, just email them 50% Final project - this final project is basically you have to code a psychological experiment, combining pretty much everything you learned from the class. And again, if you've been paying attention along the quarter, follow the scripts, and you will be fine. Doesn't have to be super complicated or anything, as long as it's logical and makes sense. Overall, easy A, would take again, Susy is great.
