Down the Rabbit Hole: How to Prevent Online Radicalization

Description: Seminar, one hour. Examination of effect of media algorithms, considering their incorporation into news, networks, internet searches, and especially social media. Students ask questions such as do the creators of such algorithms have a responsibility to filter out harmful content, how does one build more ethical and equitable algorithms, and how can one even detect harmful content in the first place. In a conversation about building a more ethical online experience, diverse opinions and ideas are welcome. P/NP grading. Facilitated by Chinmayee Chalamalasetti, with Han Du as faculty mentor.
