Spring 2020 - Dr. Hsu is a really great Professor! I thought he did a great job at covering the important and relevant topics of Public Health. He is very engaging, even with the course online this quarter. Dr. Hsu is also very willing to help if you have any questions. The class can be challenging so I wouldn't say its an easy A for everyone, but if you are paying attention you will definitely do fine. He does not use a textbook so as long as you are focused during class and review his slides, you can do great on tests and quizzes. Highly recommend this class!

Spring 2019 - One of the easiest science upper div's I have taken here at UCLA. Would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a grade boost. Basically, the whole class comes down to 1 midterm, 1 final, clicker questions, and an opinion editorial essay. Did not do a single reading at all. The class is structured such that every lecture, there is a guest lecturer talking about a public health topic (such as sleepiness, food health, epidemiology, etc.). All you have to do is show up to class, click for the clicker questions and record the answer for the clicker questions. Some of the clicker questions are utilized on the midterm/final. In order to do well on the exams, do the disucssion questions posted on CCLE that revolve around the lectures (most of the answer can be found on the powerpoint), review the powerpoints 2x, and memorize the clicker. This class is incredible doable, but probably the most boring class I have taken here at UCLA.

Fall 2020 - Professor Shafir is honestly the best! The material was very manageable and the tests were not bad either, I believe the average for the midterm was an A-. We had one midterm and a final which is not cumulative. It was open notes and proctored through zoom. You also do not need to attend lectures, but she had live sessions once a week and we would just talk about COVID or topics relating to the lecture for the week which she posts on CCLE. She is very helpful and one of the reasons why I am excited to minor in public health.
