I also chose a random class for this review, but I've taken 3 classes with Boris and I'd like to say that he is amazing. He might be a "generous" grader but that makes us enjoy his class so much more and not stress about it. taking his class is like a breath of fresh air. The discussions held in class are very interesting and he's definitely knowledgeable. The fact that he doesn't have set guidelines for papers and is more laid back about the triviality of grades made me love him so much more. He definitely cares about his students and is always open to office hours about ANYTHING. i've went to his office hours a few times and he has always been so helpful and genuine. TAKE HIM, I wish more professors were like Boris.

I took Russian 124D with Professor Lenhoff, though it's not listed here so the review will say I took 125 as that is the closest number. She is a great professor. The amount of reading was very large, roughly 2,000 pages, but she chose very interesting novels and I actually enjoyed it. She is very willing to answer questions, no matter when I emailed her I would get a response quickly. Also, she was willing to read the essays before turning them in and gave wonderful feedback. If you're willing to go back and forth with her a bit it shouldn't be too difficult to get an A. Professor Lenhoff is a very good teacher, I enjoyed this course overall and recommend it to anybody with an interest in Dostoevsky.

Classes taken: Russian 129. One of the best professors I had at UCLA. Always available in his office, wants to help students (you feel very welcome and not a burden), and replies fast to emails! For the midterm (5 pages) you get a set of essay options you can chose from and he is very willing to help you shape your paper. For the final, you chose your own topic and write research on it (10-12 pages). He will also help you find info to shape your paper. In addition, he is a very fair grader and if you are Russian or from one of the former USSR satellite states (like I am) he will help you reconnect with your culture. Make sure to attend each lecture! His lectures (especially if you are writing about Russian animation for the bulk of your work) is CRUCIAL since the readings don't talk about it much! GO TO CLASS! Summary- take him!!!
