In globalizing world characterized by rapid development in biotechnology and medicine, emphasis of medical ethics has shifted from doctors' obligations to individual patient rights and promotion of biomedical research. Goal of newly emerging professional bioethicist is to objectively define moral right and wrong in context of modern society, science, and medicine. Exploration of rich history of medical ethics and factors that influenced and necessitated emergence of bioethics. Critical examination of role of bioethics in modern medicine and research.
