Professor Hart is a good resource of information on this topic. Her lectures could be a bit dry sometimes but paying attention and taking notes does help. There is a ton of reading you must for this class. I wouldn't recommend taking this class in conjunction with another heavy reading Soc class. If you do the readings and make good outlines on the key points and use the information Professor gave you as being the heart you should do well over all. I would try and only take this class with Kate as your TA, cause I don't know how I would have made it through had she not been there. Towards the end the material becomes more interesting, well at least to me. You learn a lot about food though and the sociological implications it has on us. Interesting stuff overall.

Fall 2025 - I actually took SOC180B with her during Fall 2025 Quarter and this is an AMAZING professor. The class was on Sociology of Nutrition and Health and I actually learned so much with her. Like seriously, her grading is pretty standardized, but her exams can be a bit tricky. Doable but a bit hard, especially for the multiple choice part, she will have more than required options to test you for example 10 options and choose 4 of them etc. But overall, my experience with her was really pleasant. If you can get a class with her, I will definitely recommend go for it. My TA Andrew was amazing as well. Now I'm conducting research with her.

Winter 2026 - I took the Criminal Legal System course with Professor Sugie for winter 2026, and I absolutely loved this class. She's the type of professor who actually cares about her students and is very educated and passionate about the class she teaches. I definitely recommend taking the criminal legal system with her. There's no midterm, final, or quizzes. However, each week, there are some readings that are mandatory and graded. The readings are not long, definitely doable. There is a 2-hour presentation that you would have to lead with your group. Again, it's very doable and not that hard. It's more of a lead discussion, where you talk about that week's readings and lead the seminar with the students and ask questions. You only do that once, and there's also a research paper that you will be working on the whole quarter. You will be connected to a certain organization and will work with them, which also gives you an opportunity to possibly get an internship at the organization. As part of the final, you will be presenting a 5 min presentation about your research to the class. This class also meets once a week. Very doable. By far my favorite class.
