Description: Lecture, three hours; laboratory, 90 minutes. Preparation: passing score on basic mathematics proficiency examination given first day of class. Introduction to mathematical and statistical concepts and methods with applications in urban planning. Review of basic mathematical concepts fundamental to planning methods; linear and nonlinear functions focusing on growth curves and mathematics of finance; data measurement and display; descriptive statistics and probability. Introduction to use of computer as tool in analysis of planning-related data. Letter grading.
