Professor Sharma is one of the best professors I have had at UCLA. Her lectures are concise and she takes the time to make sure everyone understands them. She really cares about students and goes above and beyond. The class was fascinating and the workload was perfect, particularly if you work and go to school. I was sad to see the quarter end!

I took Aliens Psychics and Ghosts with Shorter and it was one of the coolest classes I've ever taken at UCLA. His lectures are interesting and the subject material (as you can imagine) is interesting/freaky/thought provoking. Shorter is a very engaging character who will keep you awake the entire time (guaranteed). Lectures are a combo of discussion of the reading, lecturing, and video/audio clips. There was a lot of reading that you'll have to do to take a lot out of this class, but it is worthwhile. It makes you want to keep reading. There were some short reading pop quizzes. The class focused upon a final research paper that counts for both a midterm and a final. He is a major stickler for writing, but I assure that you will end up writing one of the best research papers of your UCLA career. Anyhow, if you want to challenge yourself to learn about something you probably haven't thought about much, definitely take Shorter's class.

Fall 2021 - As a student who was initially unfamiliar with the world of performance art, I found Professor Whitfield's class to be an enlightening and transformative experience. His approach to teaching is very clear and his patient explanations made the more complex concepts of performance art more accessible and understandable. The class structure included free writing assignments, which allowed for a free flow of exploration of ideas without the pressure of harsh grading. Professor Whitfield's generous grading approach not only fostered a supportive learning environment but also encouraged students to take risks and experiment. His ability to make performance art accessible to students, regardless of their prior exposure to the field, is a testament to his skill as an educator. Professor Whitfield's class was an incredibly unique and valuable experience. For anyone interested in exploring performance art, I highly recommend this class and Professor Nathaniel as a guide and mentor.
