Description: Seminar, three hours. Enforced requisite: satisfaction of Entry-Level Writing requirement. Freshmen/sophomores preferred. What does Chinese signify? Language? Race? Culture? Examination of plural and persistent notions of Chineseness in global cities outside Mainland China. Discussion of readings about and video-viewing of bodily performances, such as yellow face, Broadway musicals, contemporary dance, music videos, beauty pageants. Letter grading.
