Like several others, I dreaded 110 due to many warnings. But I was pleasantly surprised. Professor Blaisdell was able to make the lectures quite upbeat with humor and funny slides. I also found his teaching style easy to follow as he makes the subject matter very comprehendible. First exam was very easy. The rest were fair, no real curveballs or anything. I also loved our TA (I forgot her name but she has a cat that plays the drums) - Cynthia? Anyways, she was great too. If you're going to take 110 - take it with Blaisdell!!
Professor Blaisdell is a great professor. I was dreading 110 because everybody warned me about the difficulty of this course. But Prof Blaisdell incorporates humor in his lectures and stories, so even though the subject matter is not of interest to many, the lectures are actually somewhat entertaining because of the humor. The exams were very fair in my opinion. The first exam was flat out easy, the other two FAIR. The final is not even cumulative, so even better. I got an A - yes, I studied but not to a crazy extent. Study his slides!
Professor Blaisdell was a good professor for this course. He has done a lot of research in regards to learning so he is definitely knowledgeable about the material. His lectures were mildly entertaining and consisted of him reading his slides and giving fun examples for them. He does not podcast his lectures and does not post the slides before class. This is a bit good since it forces you to take notes or at least pay attention during class since he posts his lectures after he is done with that specific material. He does however tend to go very fast through them and will have a lot of figures and charts. His class is structures so that you have two midterms and a final that are non-cumulative as well as quizzes in discussion section. His quizzes are very easy since all you have to do is read the book which is an easy read and not complicated. His exams are multiple choice and rely mainly on his lectures. The second exam tends to be hardest of all and the final is non cumulative as well. Even though the exams are non cumulative and multiple choice they can be rather tricky since a lot of the questions test your understanding of the material and not necessarily looking to spew back definitions. Overall his class is fair along with his grading. I would recommend taking him for this class.
I was dreading this class because of the reviews here, but Professor Blaisdell was actually a really great professor. He definitely knows his stuff, and even helped develop a hypothesis. Explains concepts well and also gave funny examples that made the material (which can get a lil complicated) easy to understand. His tests were fair and not hard at all. One or two exams question do only come from the textbook, so you'll have to keep up with the readings in this class. His jokes were really cute and made the class entertaining and enjoyable. Overall, I definitely recommend Psych 110 with Blaisdell.
I recommend Professor Blaisdell, I think he's organized, his lectures follow the book closely but he also includes a lot of examples particularly from his own work. I was a little dissapointed that he wouldnt let me keep my grades from the first two quizzes because he was hesitant to believe my genuine excuse. But overall I think he's a good lecturer and his exams are hard but managable if you're willing to put the time and effort.
He's a very good lecturer with a good sense of humor and a very likeable person. I would definately take another class with him. However, his tests are not at all representative of lecture/book material, as they tend to focus on the unimportant, trivial aspects of the course. They were fairly easy though. In short, good prof with easy but poorly written tests.
Shoot me in the foot. I did not care for this class AT ALL. The best part about the whole class was a little comic relief in his slides. I believe he liked rats and pigeons a little too much. His tests were not at all representative of the material from the book and the lecture. Grading is tough and a very small amount of points are offered. And so, I would say, avoid this class and avoid this teacher at all costs. But then again, who am I but another confused psych 110 student.
he's organized but if you don't have a background in the material it's a difficult course. by looking at other comments for the other profs he seems to be the best 110 prof here, but that doesn't say much.
i think i didn't care too much for this course because i didn't enjoy watching, reading, and hearing about rats getting shocked for almost all experiments and other animals getting poisoned for taste aversion studies. i would suggest taking one of the other courses to satisfy the requirement if at all possible.
I'm glad to hear that other people felt that Professor Blaisdell was an effective teacher. I definitely appreciated that the lectures were so organized and that his Powerpoint presentations were available on the web. I think that the material itself is kind of dry, but you can tell that he's really interested in what he's teaching, and he cares that you learn it. He is always very open to questions during lecture, and tries his best to assure that we undersand that material. I appreciated his humor and positive attitude. After all of the horror stories that you hear about 110, he really did a good job to make it challenging but not overwhelming. I recommend him.
He is a fairly good professor. The class can be very overwhelming at times, but he tries very hard to explain the concepts to the class even if it requires repeating the same idea with a different example. He tries to be funny by making up jokes, which makes the class a bit more entertaining. He is very organized with his powerpoint presentations and he is always willing to answer questions. Just make sure you read the book for information not covered in lecture because he pulls questions straight from the book.
