Professor Panofsky was the second best professor in this cluster. His lectures were engaging and all the material on the tests were logically and clearly explained in his lectures. I would recommend paying attention in class and taking detailed notes, and if you do this, his portion of the information should be an easy A on tests. His portion of assigned readings are also not very extensive, which is nice as well.

Professor Aaron Panofsky is one of the most kind, thoughtful and open-minded professors I've encountered so far in my experience here in UCLA. Although I did find some of his topics in regards to this class (DIY biology / GMO) abit more dense and confusing, Prof Panofsky teaches them in a way that makes it very comprehensible. As long as you pay attention in class and rewatch lectures before your midterms, you should be good to go. And if you do want to go deeper into a certain topic, his office hours are great + he is very willing to clarify questions there too :)

I thought that Professor Panofsky was extremely helpful. If you had a question about something discussed in lecture, he was willing to take time after class and explain it to you. That is something most professors wouldn’t do. He was also engaging in his lectures and his test questions were fair. Sometimes his lectures could be a bit confusing, but he was able to clarify in review sessions. His personality was also great, something that helped keep the course interesting.

Dr. Panofsky is responsible for the social/political aspect of the course while Dr. Rensel handles the biological aspect. To me, Dr. Panofsky is just as favorable as Dr. Rensel. Makes clear slides, a great lecturer, and a funny guy. The class itself is not bad either. 25% final, 20% midterm, 10% weekly quizzes, 20% participation (basically free points), and 25% GMO games (it's similar to MUN). A clicker is required btw. The class is sort of reading-intensive, yet as long as you pay attention during lectures and revisit them before exams, you should be fine. Would recommend.

Professor Panofsky loves corny jokes and going overtime. If that's something you can't bear with, too bad cuz you're stuck with him anyway if you're taking the cluster. Wouldn't say I disliked him, I really does try his best to engage the class in a discussion and present the information clearly. However, he often goes a bit off topic or tries to fit too much information in too little time left. So you'll often see him in the beginning of the next lecture (with a different professor) trying to finish up his presentation from the previous lecture in "just 5 minutes" and actually taking 20-30 minutes from the other professor's time which I personally found a bit disrespectful. Despite all that, Professor Panofsky presents information well and accordingly to his learning outcomes, which helps during midterm/final revision. Overall I'd probably rate him 3.9/5...
