Professor Kavner is great. She's very enthusiastic about the material she teaches and she explains difficult physics concepts really well. To get an A, which isn't difficult, pay attention to the main concepts that she stresses over and over throughout the course, and you will ace her exams. Her midterm and final are both part MC, T/F, and short answer/essay. The only problem I had with the class was the pace, which was too slow; but that may be a good thing for most people.

Kavner is great! She is really one of the nicest teachers, she really cares and goes out of her way for students. She loves questions and you will be her favorite if you ask them. The lectures are posted and are powerpoints that sort of meander around based on the questions that are asked. There are weekly labs (most finished in discussion sections or you can take the labs and do them on your own time and peace out of discussion alltogether) and like 5 homework questions due every 2 weeks. The labs and HW are graded primarily on completion and proximity to the correct answer. The class was not tough and I really learned a lot. TAKE IT!!!

EPS SCI 9 Submitted March 25, 2009 Grade Received: N/A

She comes to class with great intentions. Everyday a smile on her face, and an open persona ready to field numerous questions. This begins to serve detrimental when She encourages questions so much so that the lecture plan for the day gets abandoned. So, she is a very kind, caring, and helpful person, but her dynamic about questions completely undermines a structured itinerary. In summary, she is a great professor but still a bit naive. She will be amazing when she learns more discipline and structure. The class, ESS9, is extremely entertaining and very EASY. Lecture gets boring, solely because it starts at 9:30, which is way to early for me. TAKE THIS CLASS, TAKE ANY CLASS WITH KAVNER. She is helpful and easy.

I took plate tectonics with Kavner. She's great! It was her first time teaching the class so many of the concepts were simplified but we still learned a lot. She is extremely willing to help with the homework and really wants everyone to understand the concepts and get a good grade. The textbooks didn't really help too much but there were some concepts in them that showed up on the exams. The midterm and final weren't tricky as long as you went to all of the lectures. The final paper and presentation wasn't difficult at all- just make sure you pick something that interests you.

Loved this class! Kavner is such a sweetheart. She truly cares for her students and if you go to a couple of her office hours and make sure to ask questions she will see that you are successful in this course!

EPS SCI 51, taken Fall 2020 Submitted Feb. 15, 2021 Grade Received: B

I love Professor Kavner, she is the sweetest and really cares about her students! However, this was such an unclear and confusing class. She graded none of our work before she submitted our final grades, which was A LOT of work, and then arbitrarily assigned 95% of the class B's with 1 or 2 A's and C's. I did a lot of hard work for this class so I was very disappointed to never receive any feedback and then get a poor grade.
