Winter 2020 - Please take a class with Professor Bergero. She is probably one of the sweetest and kindest professors at UCLA. She really cares about the performance of each and every student and wants to see you succeed. Honestly, she is so amazing with her insight into Spanish Literature and she made the class very interesting. She would talk about the text in ways I never thought of. Seriously, she is so great and I want to take another class with her is possible. I am pretty sure she even reached out to all her students (class of 20 ) to say amazing things about each of them and what they have noticed about them throughout the quarter. I have honestly never written a review for a professor before, but she was so amazing that I felt that other students really need to know!

Dr. Bergero is one of the most well educated persons I've ever met. She articulates all of her vast knowledge in the most brilliant way. Not only does she teach literature, but she analyzes history and culture in the most profound and intelligent manner. She also loves to interact with students, and is very interested in our participation and understanding. Be prepared to hear and learn some exquisite Spanish.

Cares so much about student learning, which is so important in a foreign language class. She really lays out the readings, making them really accessible and drawing out intersting details, and encouraging class discussion even though it's a huge lecture. My friend told me that I'd want to marry this woman by the end of the class, and I can't say that I wouldn't.

Spring 2017 - I had the pleasure of taking Profesora Bergero's class in Spring 2017. We covered topics like modernism and feminism, with weekly readings from a $20 course reader. We had to write a weekly reflection on the pieces that we read for that week. I think she is forgiving about these, since I forgot to turn one in. We had a midterm and a final paper, which were comparison papers on some texts. Finally, we had a group presentation where we had to review one of the topics that we had covered in class. You signed up at the start of the quarter with whoever you wanted. In short, you don't need to worry about your grade here. Even if you were, though, she is the sweetest and most approachable person. As a non-native speaker, I had concerns about how to keep up with her lectures. She listened to my concerns and encouraged me to stop her during class. The most important thing to her was that everyone in her class understood the material. She would take as long as she needed for that. I cannot emphasize enough how amazing of a person she is. Nobody in my class had complaints about Profesora Bergero. Rather, we learned a lot from her class while also protecting our grades. I recommend her wholeheartedly.

Summer 2019 - I would recommend the Buenos Aires "Taking it to the Streets" program, but go with friends! I was so lucky that I became close friends with the people on my program, but they made the experience. We got really close and had a great time in the city. Classes are SO much material, but I hardly read and got an A in the class. Study the day before finals, enjoy the city the rest of the time you're there. Do SPAN199, it's also an easy A even though it's optional. Bergero is a great woman but often an ambiguous professor and sprung a lot of new information on us very late. Both of the faculty for this class (Bergero and our TA, Madison) were very partial so get on their good sides. Talk in class and you'll get an A, enjoy the beautiful city, and do NOT stress about the class or you'll be wasting valuable time in an incredible country.
