He's super easy. As long as you go to class and listen to the CD's before the tests, you'll get at least an A. Put in a little more effort, and its an easy A+. The final had questions on it like "what is professor Chapman's favorite baseball team?" It was only hard for those who thought they didn't need to go to class and missed questions like that. Even then, you're stuck with a B+. If you need a gpa booster, here it is.
OMG Professor Chapman is soooooo cool! I can;t believe I was totally drawn into a music class......me being a physics major. The in class concerts are so great and the course material is interesting. You will learn a lot about music and get a feel for what music really is without having to dig into music notation if that's not your cup of tea. Highly recommended!
Professor Chapman is a really energetic lecturer. He\355s funny and nice. The reading assignments are very fair, and so are his exams. To do well in this class, you HAVE TO go to lectures. His tests are lecture based so it\355s extremely helpful and important to attend lectures. Another factor that makes this course fun and straightforward is the TA\355s, especially David. He\355s extremely nice and cool. I think everyone does well in this class because both the TA\355s and the prof. Chapman want the students to do well, not just the students themselves. Overall, I highly recommend this course to everyone.
awesome professor~! funny, organized, and very enjoyable. the class is pretty big so it's not that easy to get his attention, but then again, the class is really easy so you don't really need it. he always brings in awesome guest performers, and he knows how to keep the attention of the class. he keeps the subject ineteresting and teaches in ways so that the students can relate to the material and/or easily understand it. he's laid-back and very approachable and i would highly recommend him as a professor.
To all those who said this class is boring and difficult: are you insane? Chapman is funny, entertaining, and talented. This is probably one of the most interesting classes I've had, and I was never even interested in music. Taking this class gives you a basic understanding of music and listening that I think everyone should have and Chapman makes it fun. In addition to that, the class is extremely easy! Multiple choice mid-term and final, and 3 simple concert reports. Plus, every week there was an in-class performance and we got to just kick back and relax and listen to some great music. I definitely recomend this class for a GE, the lecture material is not difficult at all, and it's really fun and entertaining.
This class is much harder than it looks. When you get your grade back in the end it will be lower than what you expected. Classes are boring and there is no point, so overall pick another class. IF you are a music major then this is the class for you and you will enjoy it.
Dont take this class unless you have trouble falling asleep at night. The teacher is boring and his listening cassettes are even worse. If you are looking for an easy G.E. course I would definately not recommend this teacher. There is a reason that this course is a five unit class, and that is because he is extremely difficult!!
Prob the most boring class I have ever taken. This class looks easy but when you get your final grade and its a grade or more lower than what you expected you wish you have never taken the class. don not take this class!
Easy class, but boring lectures. You'll get an easy A if you do all the concert reports and attend his lectures. But I didn't think Prof Chapman was all that entertaining. But take the class if you want an easy A and you need to finish satisfying your GEs.
Professor Chapman's class was interesting and educational. Besides the reading and the listening, you also had to attend 2 concerts during the quarter. His exams were fairly straightforward, nothing difficult if you attended lecture, did his reading and listened to the listening assignments (he would just play an excerpt from them for the listening portion of the exams). I also felt that this class was far too easy... I received an A+ and spent perhaps 10 hours studying for his midterms/finals (including listening time) and maybe 10 hours on his concert reports (including time spent going to the concerts). Overall this is a fun class and won't require too much real work.
