I took both English 142A and 181B with Prof. Braunmuller - and will be taking 142B with him in Spring. He is, by far, the most talented, knowledgeable, kindhearted, and brilliant people I have ever known. His store of knowledge about Renaissance/Tudor literature (as well as culture, society, truthfully anything about the time period...) is awe inspiring. I took his seminar on Tudor Poetry solely on the basis that he was teaching it. In his seminar, as in his lecture, I was astounded on a daily basis at how much he knows. This may seem over the top, but he is truly magnificent and if given the opportunity, one should definitely take his class!!!! It's not easy, but he is very reasonable. He has a great sense of humor (intimidating at first but great once you realize it's just in jest) and always comes to class the next day with an answer, if he wasn't able to answer it in the previous class. He fosters a passion for learning and inspires his students to see if they can ever know as much as he does. Impossible... What you will get from attending his class is an experience unmatched by any other professor in the English department. Best professor, without a doubt.
