Hard class, linot isn't that clear and assumes you already know a lot. I had a good TA which was helpful. Like any other engineering class, just do a bunch of practice problems.

As far as I know, Professor Linot was new to teaching in Fall 2023, and it certainly showed. He's clearly knowledgable and passionate about the material, but had a difficult time getting it across in a digestible way. Good luck reading his handwriting...

He posts which textbook chapters are associated with each lecture beforehand, so you can pre-read before class. Despite this, I ended up more confused after his lectures than before. I learned the material pretty much entirely from the textbook, which isn't too difficult. It's a lot of formulas and their applications.

Weekly homeworks are relatively short and definitely doable in the given time frame. The tests were a bit rough, but he curves. He's quite friendly, at least! He was very accommodating when I was out sick. I think he just needs a few more quarters of teaching experience under him.

I was apart of Professor Linot's first attempt to teach a class and it was a rollercoaster of emotions. Lectures were 2 hours long and it felt like that every single time I attended. I found that attending disscussions were more beneficial to learning the material than the main lecture and the TAs only had half the time. Notes were very long and messy and would rarely contain worked out examples ; rather they contained only concepts so your best bet there is to practice the core examples in your own time. Tests were exceedingly difficult and the Final was no exception. There was a curve in the end so all was well and the class was happy. However, if you are interested in this subject and would like to learn it I would recommend another professor.
