This professor is amazing! He's incredibly passionate about the topics he is teaching which makes the class very easy to follow. The midterm and final are both pretty simple; an A is not hard to get if you attend lectures. They involve material learned in class, the readings assigned (very broadly though and he usually includes information that he covered in class) and songs you have to recognize (only the artist, genre, and information relevant to the latter). He does make Spotify playlists of the songs which include the ones covered in class as well as additional ones. Section with Claudia was great too; we only had to turn in one major 8-page essay analyzing a song. Overall, it's an easy A and super interesting!
I loved this class so much. The professor does not post his presentations but he is very helpful if you email him about missing class due to an illness or family emergency. He has a lot of inclass performances from other bands and guest speakers which I loved. You must know all the songs from the listening examples but if you attend lecture then it should be easy to remember facts about them. They are tested on for the midterm and final.
This class is structured in the same way as his 108b class. Very easy. He is fun and easy to talk too. midterm and final are about memorizing the songs he puts up on spotify. Not hard if you are familiar with Latino/a music. Take this class and you will not regret it. Its easy and fun. A huge change from the usual stressful classes. He brings live bands to perform in his class and it all relates to the class. He brings in his band and its fun to see him because you can see his passion coming from his music.
