I LOVE THIS WOMAN AND HER DOG!!! Those tests kinda killed me, but I think it was worth it for all of the doggo pictures.

I understand that organic chemistry is a challenging class, but professor reilly is nearly unreachable via email, office hours are always packed, and it really felt like she did not care about me as a student. A combination of these things made it difficult to succeed in her class, and for these reasons, I would say DO NOT TAKE HER. Professor Reilly also spent about 3 lectures (one weeks worth) teaching us information we DID NOT NEED for this class (prelude to 14D stuff)! I think spending that time teaching us things we would have been tested on or using those lectures as extra review sessions would have been a better use of student time. She made the class more difficult than it needed to be. The LA's told me that Castillo was much easier, so I would take her instead.

Professor Reilly is a really good professor. I think the way that she taught 14C was very clear and I genuinely feel I learned a lot from her class. She lectures a bit fast but you get used to it after the first few lectures. I also LOVED the Kacey (her dog) pics she would include in her lectures. Professor Reilly is also very helpful she was very active on campus wire and provided many office hours throughout the week. Although professor Reilly is amazing her exams were pretty difficult. Going into the exams I would feel as if I understood the material but would come out feeling like I didn't study hard enough even though I would start studying at least a week in advance :( , luckily she did provide some extra credit here and there. Don't let her exams scare you from taking 14 C with professor Reilly though because she is genuinely a really helpful and understanding professor you will definitely enjoy your time in her class :D

Prof Reilly is the BEST professor I've had at UCLA! She so clearly knows what she is talking about and goes out of her way to clear up any questions we have. On Campuswire, she responds to our chem questions in mere minutes. I really enjoyed taking organic chem with her as she made the class very straightforward. I do think her tests are difficult and often test "exceptions" to rules we may have been taught, but I do think they are a good test of our knowledge. Overall, take prof REILLY she will set you up for success in CHEM14D.

I would avoid taking 14C with Dr. Reilly. She was a good lecturer and made the concepts pretty clear during class, but the tests were not at all made to demonstrate our understanding. It felt like she just put the hardest/trickiest questions possible on the exams to throw us off instead of making them fair. Exams were always much more difficult than the practice she gave us and she gave very little partial credit. I thought that having questions that are worth 15-20 points be all or nothing (despite there being a clear possibility of them having partial credit!!) is very unfair, as getting only one or two questions wrong drops you 1-2 letter grades and it belittles what you did learn and take away. Reilly also isn't very open to class suggestions. On the first midterm, nearly everyone missed one question that was worth 21 points (my TA said that only about 1/20 people got it correct) without any partial credit and instead of throwing it out, she just said sorry then put the exact same type of question on the final. The class averages for the midterm and final were in the 60s but she still did not scale up and extra credit doesn't really make that much of a difference unless your grade is borderline. It honestly felt like this class was made to make us fail the exams sometimes. I put several hours of studying into each of the exams, but my scores still did not reflect the time put in or my understanding, which was pretty disheartening. Call me a radicalist, but I don't think that you should have to be a perfectionist who can pick up on every minuscule detail to work out trick questions or score practically perfectly on exams to get an A in a class...
